I spent my wedding day getting ready at my parents homestead where I grew up. I feel so incredibly lucky to have somewhere that holds such exceptional and personal memories be able to play such a foundational role in my wedding. The night before I slept like a little lamb so I woke up quite refreshed. Zach and I wore many hats; wedding planner, wedding stylist, wedding coordinator, as well as the bride and groom. I think the fact that country weddings can take on such DIY form meant that I was just exhausted and I fell asleep instantly. This put me in good stead for the wedding day. I woke up with a fluttery tummy but also incredibly calm. My dad cooked his famous scrambled eggs to serve with croissants, and my bridesmaids and I munched on those while getting ready and listening to Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, Dylan, McCartney... all of my favourites! We did facemasks, made the 'Just Married' sign for the car, put petals in cones for guests, popped champagne and just spent the morning together. Spending it with my number one ladies, and man (bridesman), coupled with being at home - well I just don't think there's anything so grounding or better for the soul! Especially on your wedding day.
Once our photographer Lilli arrived, that was our cue for changing. It was quite emotional stepping out of the Pomme shirt and into the dress! For me, the atmosphere quickly changed from calm to a level of elation that I had never felt before. My bridesmaids drove me to the church with an exceptional bridal playlist - mostly songs from cinematic genius Richard Curtis' films. The entire day then flowed seamlessly, well from what I know. What an experience it was. I'm writing this almost two months on but I can still recall every moment and detail with the utmost fondness, and with a smile on my face.
